California Gov. Gavin Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass criticized the move as unnecessary and said it risks escalating the violence. A third day of demonstrations is planned for today.

Around 300 guard members arrived in Los Angeles this morning after President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of 2,000 troops, a move sharply criticized as inflammatory and unnecessary by California Gov. Gavin Newsom and a "chaotic escalation" by Mayor Karen Bass.
Newsom urged protesters on social media to remain calm. "Don’t give Trump what he wants," he wrote.
"Border czar" Tom Homan defended Trump’s decision to deploy the troops and warned that Newsom and Bass could be arrested if they impede operation efforts.
Demonstrators protesting federal immigration raids clashed with police in a day of chaos in Los Angeles yesterday, leading to the arrests of 11 people last night for failure to disperse, according to a law enforcement source.
