I feel like I need to address who I voted for based on some of the comments in the comment section. I have never been a Trump supporter. In 2016 I voted for Clinton, in 2020 I voted for Biden, and in 2024 I voted for Harris. The one and only time I have ever voted Republican was when I was 18, and still living at home with my very conservative parents. I voted the way they told me to vote. When I went to college and started learning about the WORLD and not just my bubble, when my circle of friends expanded, I became a liberal. Now, I’m farther left than my husband - who has always been liberal. I think that everyone that says “this is what you voted for” is missing the point. And that point is that only 63% of Americans are registered to vote. And of that #, an even smaller amount choose to vote in elections. So, it's not so much a “you got who you voted for”, it’s a “YOU DIDN’T BOTHER TO VOTE!” That’s how we got here!
I still feel empathy for people who are losing their food stamps (including my daughter and her two small kids). She did vote in 2024, for the first time ever. She is 30. She voted Harris as well. We’re suffering the consequences of those who either didn't bother to show up and vote or those who couldn't for one reason or another.
maybe I didn't make it clear, but this is also about more than tariffs. It's about policies that have been put in place by those in the White House that hurt Americans. Full stop. It's been happening for years and years and years. They have always put corporations above the people and community. That is what needs to change. People have forgotten that gov’t works FOR US, the people. It's time we remember our POWER and take it back!
I'm so sorry you're going through this! I'm 80 and afraid of losing my Food Stamps. Social Security isn't enough, obviously, but that's the next to go, I'm sure. When I'm homeless I'll cost the taxpayers a fortune!
The day we remove corporate America from the electoral process is the day we solve a good part of the problem. They need to take their hand out of the back pocket of politicians. When the Supreme Court ruled a corporation has some of the same rights as a person and unlimited donations could be made to voice their "political opinions" through PACs, the game was changed.
The other change that must be made is to abolish the electoral college. Our elections must become 1 person 1 vote to truly represent the wishes of WE THE PEOPLE.
Not everyone suffering voted for the guy in office. Many people didn't vote. We now have an economy not helpful for many, so it is prudent to get it sorted out. If people believe grocery prices can continue to raise like this, there will be a food crisis. Read history.
Who did you vote for? I get frustrated because the same people who are having the most difficult time are the ones who voted for republicans. He did exactly what he said he was going to do and the rest was lies. We had 4 years of this nonsense and now it might be a lifetime. Get that second job and save yourself. It’s not going to get easier anytime soon.
He’s running like a steamroller destroying our lives and our democracy. It’s hard to comprehend. Good luck to you. Vote midterm let’s take back the house and the senate and get rid of this pestilence!
I have never voted for Trump. I voted for Clinton, then I voted for Biden, then I voted for Harris. The one and only time I voted for a Republican was when I was 18. And that's because I was brought up in a very conservative household. But once I went to college and started really looking at the world, I became a diehard liberal. Now I'm a progressive liberal. I knew that tariffs were not going to help us. I just thought we would have more time before it was reflected in the things we buy every day.
“You can’t drive far without seeing signs of political pride, reminders of how much people care about their communities.”
If by “signs of political pride” you mean Trump signs - stop right there. That’s where your community went wrong and voted against their best interests. It wasn’t a secret. He was all about anti-woke, misogyny and racism. The ones hurting in your community are the ones who voted for exactly that.
yes, I live in a red county, a very red county in Georgia. The street I live on is full of Trump signs. I have a don't tread on my gay pride flag outside my house with a uterus on it. Just because I know that my community made these decisions, doesn't mean I don't get to talk about the fact that there are others in the same community that didn't vote for Trump. We're just very few and far between.
