I am a woman, and I am transgender. I am grateful for you and the handful of other independent news sources who give fair, honest, and factual coverage to LGBTQIA2S+ issues in general, and to the transgender community in particular. We are a small minority, and we have very little direct political clout. But your reporting helps to remind your readers that we too are human beings, and that we all have the right to exist and thrive. Thank you!
I'm straight, but I still support everyone who isn't. Cannot understand people who choose to let people who don't affect their lives negatively in any way get them so bent out of shape.
I’m a Woman. My dad was gay. My mother was infertile. I’m adopted. I’m a retired teacher 42 years of service to help ALL children in a FREE public education system. I believe in freedom and equality for everyone. Keep posting your content and know you are loved.
Thank you for being true to your mission. I agree if we say nothing we're compliant, and I will not be silent. I'm a 70 year old ally who will not be silent!
I'm but part of the LGBT+ community but an ally who will never be swayed from that. My adult daughter is part of the community and my heart breaks for her because of the things she's had to endure. You're right, equally means everyone!
Thank you. Please help me understand. When you say you were assigned being a male a birth, I think using terms like "assigned" confuses people.
Yes, we are all assigned a gender a birth. Why do you think it's okay to unassign yourself, despite gender and genetics, and play sports against a smaller and weaker sex?
You say you knew at 5. What did you know at 5? 5 year olds dont usually know that much. Most kids barely read at 5. Most 10 year olds dont know that much. Please explain what you knew at 5 years old? You have to admit, if you're 5 years old and your birth certificate says male, I have a hard time understanding why you think the OB-GYN was wrong, and you knew it at 5.
I think it's fair to say that most people born male will be bigger than women more petite. Males have bigger bones, bigger frames and more muscle. Yes, ome males will crush other males in sports. The problem is that some males will crush women playing sports, even if its a non-contact sport. Ive broken bones playing football and soccer. The soccer injury from a collision was worse, despite being a non-contact sport.
Are you saying that trans men should have the right to play against women in sports, despite the size difference in some cases?
I suppose playing sports with and against girls could make you feel like one of the girls. But cant you see that it's not fair to smaller girls, especially girls smaller than average. Those girls were born without testosterone and they are much weaker than males.
I understand that some people believe they are really the other sex, despite their birth certificate. That's fine. People can be whatever they want to be.
But when an individual's wants* are put before the needs* of a community of yound girls growing and playing sports, it's just not fair to the weaker sex, especially at a young age.
Please help me understand why some males believe that it's fair to compete against much smaller petite women? Im sorry, but you knew you were really one of the girls at age 5 does not stand up in a court because it's an opinion, contrary to the facts.
For some reason I cannot understand, many people equate trans rights as the right of a biological man to compete against biological females in sports. I suppose people who were not in competitive sports and trained hard 24/7, do not understand why this is so unfair to WOMEN. Trans-women rights must not include the right to compete against women because women have a right to fairness, and a right to compete without the fear of a bigger biological male hurting them.
In fact, transgendered women competing against biological women will cause violence against women. In fact, biological women will get hurt by trans women because they are bigger, stronger and faster. Im appalled that a 90-110 lbs young woman would compete against 150-200 lbs biological man. It's wrong. It's unacceptable. It's madness.
My hope is that the Women's Post will stand up for women, not trans women. Keep in mind, biological men/trans women who wish to compete against biological women have created much backlask and hate to the trans community. On the political stage, they've stolen the spotlight, despite most trans do not want to compete in sports against women.
This backlash and hate will only increase. Biological men will never be welcomed to compete against women. The more biological women are hurt by biological men, the more the disdain will grow. In reality, the LGBT community needs to stand up to trans women and say you have a right to exist, but you do not have the right to ignore biology and compete against women. In fact, a trans women wanting to compete against women may indicate a narsissism or desire to dominate women.
The Women's Post needs to stand up for women and tell the trans women community that they have a right to exist, but they do not have a right to invade women's space in athletics that will result in women being hurt. In fact, allowing trans women to compete against women will result in violence against. It's really that simple.
If the Women's Post does side with trans women over women, maybe the Trans-Women Post is a better name. I hope that's not the case. Justice is fairness. It's not fair to biological women to compete against biological men. Mixing the genders in sports will break hearts and bones.
While I have not seen any studies on the subject, but as someone who has spent a lot of time in urban areas and watched crime shows, the trans women community seems to have more than their share of violent offenders. Does the Women's Post really want to side with this group of men who say they are women, and want to play sports against women so they can dominate women, and in some case hurt women?
Sorry to be so blunt, but Ive must stand up against institutionalized violence against women in all forms, even if its biolgical men becoming trans women to compete against biological women. No wonder Republicans made such a big deal about trans hurting girls in sports. It does show misguided equality rights gone wrong.
If a politician does not have the courage to stand up for biological young women to have the right to compete on a level playing field, without biological men on the field who will over-power and hurt them, then that politician should not represent the 99.9% of women who just want to play sports with women and not be dominated by trans women/men.
I agree with you on this point. Men’s muscles are different that women’s. All the T in the world though doesn’t make a man. It just helps you die younger with more aggression. Try to have a civil convo? Impossible. Too much aggression. Not a transphobe, whatever anyone might think. I will always vote for free body expression. I just disagree with the sports issue. It’s not rocket science. Men are bigger and stronger and don’t have the extra fat layers that women do. Didn’t mean to get so carried away here but I’ve just been thinking about this your years. BTW, I’m a senior human.
Thank you for your comments. My story might help you see an alternative view of what it might mean for a person assigned male at birth to be able to participate in sports as a girl.
I knew when I was 5 years old and possibly even before that. Early childhood memories are hard to fit on a precise time line. This would have been 62 years ago (I am 66).
If it were acceptable then or now that I could have approached puberty with the medical treatments I desperately wish I could have had, I never would have had the amount of testosterone that would have created the bone structure and muscle tone that you mention. If our politicians would stop trying to dictate the healthcare of families, this would not be a problem.
I started Hormone Replacement Therapy at 50 years old. While my bone structure was already grown, I can tell you from my experience that my muscle tone has dropped considerably after taking testosterone blockers. I was never much into sports but I think if I were to begin training to play college or professional womans sports I would be much less advantaged than many women who currently play. Many of them most likley have a higher naturally occurring testosterone leverls than my current levels.
These are just a few things that may enlighten the conversation.
